All of us should brush our teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste. But should we rinse after brushing? Well maybe just a little bit. It is best to sip a small amount of water to rinse which helps retain the fluoride between teeth.
But better yet mix a small sip of water with the toothpaste foam in your mouth to make a slurry. Swish the slurry vigorously, spit out the slurry with no other rinsing. Swedish researchers found that preschoolers who rinsed with a slurry had fewer cavities then those children who rinsed with water. Young children should be supervised so they don’t swallow fluoride toothpaste.
