It's hard to believe it's been seventeen years when on September 11, 2001 thousands of lives were impacted by the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center Twin Towers, the Pentagon and four civilian passenger airliners. Those terrible acts still leave us feeling sadness and disbelief.
We remember how almost immediately thousands of Americans lined up to give blood. Well known celebrities helped raise millions of dollars to help the families of the victims. Police, firefighters and volunteers worked countless hours at rescue and recovery—some of them, at the cost of their own lives. Charitable groups across the nation offered their assistance. We came together within our neighborhoods and communities, as one people, to help each other.
We remember and take comfort in the fact that the United States has proven its ability to triumph over some of the worst circumstances, not just on this day but others before after that fateful day to this day. And we will continue to do so.
While the future can seem uncertain, we believe that each new chapter in our history will once again show our strength as a nation. America is resilient and we bounce back—strong as ever.
As we remember this day in history, we want you to know you are part of our family and we care about you. We stand with you, one nation—of Americans—indivisible.
